Indore: Girl who stayed in police officers’ mess sent to jail


Indore: City police on Friday produced Sonali Sharma, who was arrested for staying in officers’ mess by posing as the sister of additional director general of police (ADGP), before the court from where she was sent to jail. The police are now verifying her family details as the address provided by her has found to be incorrect.

Rupesh Dwivedi, additional superintendent of police, said that the details of Sonali ’s bank account are also being checked. More than Rs 5 lakh were found to be deposited in her accounts. She has five bank accounts in various banks in Bhopal. The investigation also revealed that Sonali had changed her gender a few years ago. Police are also trying to extract information from her drivers and other associates.

Notably, Sonali has been staying in the city for about 10 months and she had stayed in officers’ mess many a times by posing herself as the sister of Ajay Kumar Sharma, ADGP. The truth about her being an imposter came to fore when, finding her activities to be suspicious, the police officials at the mess asked ADGP about her. Sadar Bazaar police have lodged a case of fraud against her and proceeded with the investigation in the case.
