THANE: Five men posing as Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials tried to carry out a raid in a coaching class at Teen petrol pump last week.
The police said that the complainant, Alwyn Perez, a professor at the commerce coaching classes was teaching the class when three men barged into the classroom and identified themselves as ACB officers. “On Saturday at around 4.40pm, the professor was told by the men that they were at the classes to carry out a raid,” said a police officer.

Perez asked them for their identity cards after which they told him to accompany them to meet their boss, who was waiting downstairs with another officer. Perez refused to budge despite being threatened to be dragged downstairs, said the police officer.

The accused then tried to drag Perez out, but in the meantime, other staff rushed to his help and intervened. They told the men that their activities were being recorded in the CCTV cameras.

The trio then rushed out of the building along with the other two waiting downstairs. When contacted ACB, they said no such raid was carried out from their end.

“The complainant also told us that they got a call from a mobile number wherein the caller identified himself from the ACB,” added the officer.

The police said that the number is being verified, which seems to be registered in Nashik. The officers have also procured the CCTV footage and further probe is underway. “A team is working on the case to identify the accused and their intention is still unclear as the victim has not opened up much,” said the officer.
