Highlights
Chennai Super Kings defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 6 wickets in Pune. Umesh Yadav has climbed to top spot in the tally with most wickets and now has the purple cap.
"Feeling nice. I knew one thing, that I have pace. So I have been concentrating on line and length. Nehra paaji is helping me with it. This is good for me and getting a lot of confidence (from my performances). This purple cap is for my wife, who has been asking me when are you going to get the purple cap."
That's all for this match from our side. Join us for further coverage of IPL 2018.
Chahal is being hammered in this over by Dhoni. He has scored three sixes in that over so far and has certainly turned the match in CSK's favour. A briliant display of batting by the CSK skipper
A back of the length delivery from M Ashwin and it has been dispatched for a six by Dwayne Bravo. CSK have lost some wickets but they are still in the run-chase. With Dhoni and Bravo at the crease, it shouldn't be much of a problem for CSK from here on
Another one goes down and this time it's Dhruv Shorey who has to depart for 8 and CSK are 80/4. It was an outside off-stump delivery from Colin de Grandhomme that Shorey tried to slash through the covers but only managed to give a straightforward catch to Mandeep Singh at backward point position
Murugan Ashwin has a wicket as he removes Ambati Rayudu who tries to slog a delivery from the spinner but doesn't time it well and Siraj takes a good catch at backward point. Rayudu goes for 32 and CSK are 78/3
Dhruv Shorey ends the 10th over with a maximum. He shows his class with that stroke. Chennai Super Kings are currently cruising towards the target and this is a good experiment from them to promote a youngster up the order
Tim Southee with a brilliant catch at the ropes to remove Suresh Raina. Usmesh Yadav has another wicket. Brilliant take Southee. He balances himself at the boundary and takes it. His momentum is taking him over so he throws it in the air and crosses the ropes. He returns to finish the catch
Chennai Super Kings are going strong in the chase. Ambati Rayudu is once again leading the charge. Chennai are 42 for the loss of one wicket after six overs.
RCB were keeping things tight in Pune and now Umesh Yadav has bowled Shane Watson with a perfect yorker. It was quick and through Watson defence. Chennai 18 for 1 after 3 overs
Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu walk out to open the chase for Chennai Super Kings. Tim Southee has the ball in hand and will bowl the first over
Chennai Super Kings have done a great job to restrict Royal Challengers Bangalore. RCB post 127 for 9 in 20 overs. This looks chaseable in Pune and CSK will fancy their chances
Tim Southee with some boundaries there. RCB need more of those. They take 11 runs from the penultimate over and are 123 for the loss of eight wickets. Final over coming up. Bravo to bowl
This is not what RCB expected from this game. They are 98 for the loss of eight wickets with three more overs to go. Siraj and Southee should look to play out the overs
Wicket number seven for Chennai! De Grandhomme bites the dust this time. It is coming back into Grandhomme and he is trying to pull over mid-wicket. Only skies it to covers
Just the one run from Harbhajan over. Bangalore are 87 for 6 and in deep trouble against Chennai Super Kings. Colin De Grandhomme and Tim Southee are the two batsmen out in the middle
What is happening in Pune! RCB are falling like nine-pins. M Ashwin is stumped by Dhoni. Flighted and straight. Ashwin had no idea where it came from. The back leg is on the line.
Ravindra Jadeja is on fire! Third wicket for him and it is the set batsmen Parthiv Patel. Caught and bowled by Jadeja! That is a flighted delivery from Jadeja and Parthiv tries to flick it. Gets a leading edge and is caught.
Playing his first game of the tournament, Parthiv Patel gets a half-century! Brilliant batting from the left-handed opener. Can he keep RCB going?
GONE! Ravindra Jadeja has another wicket. Mandeep Singh picks out the fielder perfectly in the deep. Brilliant bowling from Jadeja. CSK on top
AB de Villiers is stumped for just 1 run from 4 balls. Not the return to action AB would have liked but he's been forced to walk back for just 1 run by Harbhajan Singh. Well outside the crease, AB tried to sweep it down to fine leg but the ball keeps spinning away from him and Dhoni flips the bails. Kohli and AB gone in just 8 balls!
Virat Kohli walks back for just 8 runs from 11 balls. First ball by Ravindra Jadeja and Kohli is castled! Jadeja looks almost surprised with what just happened. First ball by the left-arm spinner and Kohli fails to connect with the cut. Bit of a glare back from Kohli as he walks. 100.7kmph and it straightens after pitching to take away the off stump.
Scratch the last update. Parthiv has just swiveled and pulled an off cutter by Ngidi for a six. On the middle stump and read it early to send it over backward square for a six. It goes 67 metres!
Parthiv Patel is connecting well with the ball on consecutive short balls by Shardul but neither run away to the boundary for a four. Nice contact but unable to turn it into boundaries
Smacked back over the bowler's head by Virat Kohli. Middle of the bat and nice sound off it. Shardul Thakur with pace on it and Kohli goes on front foot to slap it for a four.
"Trouble! Trouble!" exclaims the commentator and he's right. Kohli opens the face of the bat on the off side and goes to steal a quick single. Parthiv Patel was on the danger end but Rayudu misses. On target and that would have been curtains for Parthiv. No questions asked! Smiles all around. Parthiv mostly out of relief!
Parthiv Patel scores the first six of the match! Comes down the track to David Willey and despite having little room to work with, gets good contact on it and sends it soaring over long on for a six!
Brendon Mcullum departs for just 5 runs from 3 balls and Lungi Ngidi strikes! Shardul Thakur with a juggling act but holds on in the end. Baz comes down the track to the short delivery, slashes at it from well outside the off stump and only ends up getting the top edge.
In his first game on return, Parthiv Patel comes out to open alongside Brendon McCullum. And Parthiv takes guard to face the first ball. David Willey has the ball to get things underway for CSK
It may be 40 degrees and 70% of the stands are not covered but that has not stopped fans from coming out in good numbers. Not often you get to see Kohli, AB, Dhoni all in one go!
Chennai Super Kings (Playing XI): Shane Watson, Ambati Rayudu, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni(w/c), Dhruv Shorey, Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo, David Willey, Harbhajan Singh, Lungi Ngidi, Shardul Thakur
Royal Challengers Bangalore (Playing XI): Parthiv Patel(w), Brendon McCullum, Virat Kohli(c), AB de Villiers, Mandeep Singh, Colin de Grandhomme, Tim Southee, Murugan Ashwin, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal
MS Dhoni: "We will bowl first. The wicket doesn't change. Hopefully it'll only get slightly better. Somebody will have to step up and own that responsibility. Chahar is injured, so it gives us an opportunity to try other players before the serious part of the tournament. Faf misses out and Willey comes in, Karn misses out (for Dhruv Shorey), Asif misses out for Shardul."
Virat Kohli: "We'd have bowled first as well. Good wicket, so we will try to put some runs on the board. I think we're getting momentum at the right time. Last 3 games have been really good. Really happy about where we are placed as a team. AB de Villiers is in for de Kock, Parthiv is in for Vohra and M Ashwin comes in for Washington Sundar."
CSK make three changes: Faf, Karn Sharma, KM Asif go out for Willey, Dhruv Shorey and Shardul Thakur
RCB make three changes too: AB in for Quinton de Kock, Parthiv comes in for Manan Vohra and Washginton Sundar sits out for M Ashwin
Javagal Srinath the match referee for the toss. MS Dhoni spins the coin and CSK win the toss and choose to field first.
Ian Bishop with the pitch report: "There's nice breeze coming from west to east. The pitch itself is an interesting pitch. There's a lot of grass in certain parts which will allow the ball to slide on nicely, but certain areas which are fuller do look dry. But it still looks a decent pitch on which to score."
AB de Villiers will be back for RCB and he's happy to have recovered from the flu: 'Great to be out of my room. CSK lost the last one but they still are the team to beat," he says in a pre-match interview. "I was literally in bed for four days but I feel strong and ready to go. The wicket here is true. From what I remember, there's genuine bounce," he adds.
"I think Colin did a great job in the last game. I think the 20-odd runs he scored was the reason why we won the game. Really satisfied with how Colin has come into the team. I think Mandeep has been consistent. Finishing plays a part when you don't do well at the top. We have done well at the top with the experienced four batsmen generally batting well," said Daniel Vettori in the press conference on Friday.
Harbhajan Singh has a solid record against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Will he continue to have their number?
Expected Royal Challengers Bangalore XI: Parthiv Patel, Brendon McCullum, Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Mandeep Singh, Colin de Grandhomme, Washington Sundar, Tim Southee, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal
