‘Handover gutka case to CBI as per HC order’

The Coimbatore Superintendent of Police Pa Murthy and Sulur Inspector Thangaraj should handover the illegal gutka godown case to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as per the directions of the Madras High Court, said DMK MLA J. Anbazhagan.

Mr. Anbazhagan in a legal notice to both officials, said that they should refrain from investigating the case and hand it over to the CBI or else they would have to face a case of contempt of court, he said.

“As soon as the transfer of investigation to CBI was ordered by the Madras High Court, the police working under the control of he State Government shall stay off from the files, if at all the police finds any such offence, they shall register a case and to hand over the process of investigation to CBI”, the notice said quoting the HC order.

The Madras High Court in its order dated April 26 had directed the CBI to investigate into all aspects of the offence of illegl manufacture, import, supply, distribution and sale of gutka and other forms of chewable tobacco banned in the state and Puducherry.

The court also clearly observed that a central agecy such as CBI would be more comprehensive and would cover all aspects including the detection of all those inlvolved in such illegal gutka supply, import, manufature, as also the detection of corruption and complicity of public servants and/or governmnt servants in this regard.
