GENOA – A 30-year-old Genoa man accused of driving under the influence with his children in the car was released from jail after posting bail, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.

Brandon M. Eichelberger, 30, of the 33700 block of North State Road, was charged with DUI, having a defective windshield, driving without insurance, unlawful display of registration and two counts of endangering the life or health of a child.

Deputies said they responded to a tip about 5:42 p.m. Thursday that Eichelberger was involved in a domestic battery at West First Street and North State Road in Genoa, but that report was unfounded, according to the release.

Chief Deputy Andy Sullivan said a witness reported what appeared to be a domestic abuse situation in the car.

The person said they saw Eichelberger punch the windshield, spidering the glass. Police then pulled over the vehicle.

He said a breath test revealed that Eichelberger’s blood-alcohol content was more than 0.08 at the scene, and children were in the car, so he was arrested and taken to the DeKalb County Jail.

A member of the jail staff said Eichelberger posted $100 and his license just before 9:30 p.m. Thursday, less than two hours after he was booked.

A court date for Eichelberger has not yet been set, according to online court records.
