Manchester United endured a miserable evening on the south coast, potentially surrendering their grip on second place with a dismal 1-0 defeat to Brighton.

The Seagulls secured their Premier League survival thanks to Pascal Gross’ second-half header, although goal-line technology was required to award the strike.

The German midfielder rose highest to meet Jose Izquierdo’s cross, but Marcos Rojo hooked the effort clear before it hit the back of the net.

Referee Craig Pawson took a moment to award the strike, with Manchester United players claiming it did not cross the line, but these pictures prove otherwise.
