GHMC gets nod for monsoon work

Only emergency work to be taken up

The government has, on Saturday, issued an order delegating powers to officers of the municipal department, to take up emergency repair work of the roads, stormwater drains and sewer lines and such other work, in view of the oncoming monsoons.

According to the orders, the Commissioner, GHMC or Managing Director, HMWSSB, or heads of the departments, or the engineer-in-chief have the power to accord administrative approval for work costing more than ₹40 lakh, and to entrust work on nomination basis up to ₹25 lakh.

The chief engineers, may also accord administrative approval to work costing up to ₹40 lakh, and entrust work on nomination basis up to ₹25 lakh.

The zonal commissioners, superintending engineers and commissioners of corporations other than GHMC will have powers to give administrative approval to work costing up to ₹25 lakh, and entrust work up to ₹10 lakh on nomination basis.

The deputy commissioners, executive engineers, and municipal commissioners of other urban local bodies may accord administrative approval of work costing up to ₹10 lakh and entrust work on nomination basis up to ₹5lakh, the order said.

Before Sept. 30

The designated officials up to chief engineers may give administrative approval for work with prior concurrence of the next higher authorities.

No administrative sanctions may be taken up after September 30.

The GO also stipulates that no work other than those of emergency nature necessitated due to damages caused by rains and other natural calamities during the monsoon period should be taken up.
