‘Have to create safe society for our children’

Investment in children important, says Save the Children director

Save the Children, a child rights organisation, in partnership with Avvai Village Welfare Society, held a meeting on Friday with officials from State Departments to promote investments in Child Sensitive Social Protection (CSSP).

Speaking on the occasion, Rajendra Ratnoo, Commissioner, State Disaster Management Authority, said, “We have to create a safe society for our children. As a society, we must come together and promote more initiatives that focus on building resilient and safe societies for children to grow, learn and develop.”

He further emphasised the urgency of developing and implementing a plan of action, before and after disasters, incorporating child friendly spaces into the plan.

R. Lalvena, Commissioner, Department of Social Defence, in his keynote address, said it was also important for stakeholders to know about the rules and regulations of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 and legislations concerning child welfare.

Speaking about the department’s activities, Mr. Lalvena noted that they were also working on improvising the Individual Care Plan, meant to successfully rehabilitate children and improve the standards of child care institutions.

Vinay Iyer, project director, Save the Children, added that nearly 30% of children who are poor reside in India.
