MANGALURU: Prime Minister
Narendra Modi while launching a broadside on nepotism of the
Congress and its fixation on one family and its interests, categorically dismissed the possibility of a hung assembly emerging in
Karnataka, come May 15. Describing the theory of a hung assembly as the conspiracy of the Congress to dishearten voters,
Modi said BJP is the only party that can stop the Congress while JD(S) will come in a distant third in this electoral battle.
Addressing the fourth and last of election rallies for the day in the battle for Karnataka in this coastal city on Saturday, Modi said Congress has not been able to get over its fixation of criticizing every move that he undertakes. “Congress is critical of me when I am in the country, whenever I tour any state in the country or even when I tour abroad,” Modi said adding this is in tune with its single minded agenda to ‘oppose Modi and whatever he does’ at any cost.
“For Congress, it has always been about one family. But for me, I think about 125 crore Indians who are my family,” Modi said, adding this is reflected in the manner in which the grand old party treated its stalwarts such as Sardar Vallabhai Patel, Subash Chandra Bose, Lal Bahadur Shastri and even Rajagopalachari. This was seen in Karnataka in the manner in which Congress treated Devaraj Urs and even
Veerendra Patil who played a stellar role for the party, Modi said.
Describing nepotism of the Congress as the singular biggest threat to democratic fabric of India, Modi said, “When I start tightening the grips on this system (they have fostered), their eco-system starts churning in their stomach.” The Congress does not have the capacity to stomach the hard truth that I speak about them, Modi said adding instead they resort to spreading canards about me. “People of the nation are all knowing and will see through their game,” he said.
Averring that such nepotism is the ideal breeding grounds for mafia, Modi said from the liquor and education mafia that was prevalent in the earlier days of Congress, people now have to contend with land mafia, sand mafia, mining mafia, cable mafia, transfer posting mafia where middlemen rule the roost. “If a poor person in
Mangaluru wants to build or repair a house, he or she has to bow before these various mafias especially sand mafia to get a bag of sand,” Modi noted.
Explaining Congress’ frustration at these developments and voter reaction to BJP rallies, including the mammoth turn out in this coastal city, Modi said, “Congress is sure it will not have access to funds from these mafias that has funded them over these years come May 12 and they are like fish out of water without power.” Congress’ apathy and lack of interest in implementing any scheme promoted by the Centre has hurt Karnataka and it is time for them to go, he added.
