Officials told to utilise funds prudently

In-charge Collector G. Srijana on Friday asked the officials to ensure proper utilisation of the funds allocated for the development of the Government Hospital for Mental Care.

Chairing the Hospital Development Society Committee meeting in her capacity as Chairperson of the panel, held at the Collectorate on Friday, she sought details on the allocation of funds, their utilisation and vacant posts in the hospital.

She also discussed with the hospital authorities the damage done to the compound wall during the Hudhud cyclone, construction of new buildings and repairs to the old buildings.

Hospital Superintendent Radharani said that the construction of a community kitchen, rehabilitation centre and waiting hall for the relatives of patients was yet to be undertaken. The Family Ward block was a little away from the main building and a separate electrical transformer was needed for it.

Fund crunch

Dr. Radharani said that there was a need to set up CCTV cameras on the hospital premises but it could not be undertaken for the want of funds. Ms. Srijana suggested that the CSR funds , secured from various companies could be utilised for the purpose.

When her attention was drawn to the encroachment of hospital land due to collapse of the compound wall, Ms. Srijana said that action would be initiated against the land grabbers, if a detailed report was submitted.

Vacant post

Dr. Radharani said that while the sanctioned strength of the hospital was 174, there were only 140 regular and three outsourcing posts and 31 posts were vacant.

Committee members T. Saraswathi Devi and Umesh Kumar attended the meeting.
