Mumbai : A 22-year-old woman, undergoing labour pain, was travelling from Titwala to get admitted to a hospital in Ghatkopar, but alighted at the Thane railway station only to deliver a healthy baby girl around 12.15 am, making it the third successful delivery by One Rupee Clinic. Later, the mother, Zeba Ansari, and her infant baby were shifted to Thane Civil Hospital.
On Friday, Zeba, a resident of Titwala, returned home around 7 pm from Rajawadi hospital after a routine check-up. “But later in the night, Zeba started getting labour pains, so we decided to go to Rajawadi hospital again We boarded a 11.14pm Thane local from Titwala, along with my mother,” said Muhammad Ansari, her husband.
Ansari further added Zeba was getting severe contraction and while the train entered Thane station, he rushed her to the railway police and immediately they called the doctors from One Rupee Clinic.
“The woman delivered the baby in the local after which she was shifted to our hospital around 1.30 am. Both the child and the mother are healthy and safe and will be discharged soon,” said Dr Sangeeta Makode, additional civil surgeon, Thane Civil Hospital.
Earlier too such emergency deliveries of women, who went to sudden labour pain while travelling in local train took place at the ‘Emergency Medical Room set up at different railway stations. The doctors handled the first delivery at Ghatkopar station in July 2017, second such case was attended at Dadar station in October 2017, and now this, making it the third successful delivery, carried out by railway’s emergency medical room doctors.
These clinics charge just Re 1 per patient for their services, which are currently available at 12 stations, including Dadar, Kurla, Ghatkopar, Thane, Wadala Road and Mulund.
