The Tilak Nagar police have arrested four rickshaw drivers for beating up and robbing a 46-year-old man near the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) in Kurla on Friday, after he refused to pay for their beer.

The accused have been identified as Rohit Shinde, 31, Santosh Kasbe, 36, Ashwin Gaikwad, 35, and Amol Jogdand, 28.

The complainant, Sanjaykumar Dubey, 46, works as a ticket agent and was walking outside the terminus when the incident took place.

“The four drivers were consuming alcohol when they saw Dubey walking. They knew that he earned a substantial amount, due to the ongoing summer rush, and so demanded money from him for the beer,” said Vijay Khaire, senior police inspector, Tilak Nagar police station.

When Dubey refused, the infuriated accused began to kick him. They then snatched his gold chain and cash worth ₹18,000 and fled the spot.

After receiving treatment from a government hospital, Dubey filed a complaint at the Tilak Nagar police station. A case under section 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) of the Indian penal code (IPC) was registered against the four.
