Denizens of Umarkote have demanded a Vigilance probe into the Raighar-Umarkote State Highway construction works alleging massive corruption by PWD officials and the contractor.

The manner in which roads get washed away in just one or two inch of rainfall shows the quality of work maintained and massive corruption involved, they said.

The concerned JE and the contractor openly flout road construction norms and do not maintain quality of the work for vested interest, they alleged.

Notably, a large portion of the roads has been constructed as per the wish of the contractor and not according to the specifications laid down by the PWD, said a local. The quality was compromised to such an extent that the new road was no better than its earlier shape.

Earlier, some villagers made a complaint to the department authorities and basing on the allegation, the Executive Engineer, Nabarangpur, had visited the site and made an inquiry only as an eye wash, alleged Judistier Gond, a denizen of Chikalpadar village.

Huge amount is bungled in the name of project work, because the PWD officials from the top to the bottom levels are indulged in corruption, the locals fumed and demanded a probe by the Vigilance.
