Karnataka polls: PM Modi says Congress' policies during past 70 years are responsible for farmers suicide |
sk
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has charged the Congress of hoodwinking the poor for the past 70 years. Addressing a rally in Tumakuru, in poll-bound Karnataka today Mr. Modi said right from the time of Indira Gandhi, the Congress has been misleading the farmers to win elections.
He said the Congress or rather only one family ruled the country for seventy years and asked why then the farmers are still debt-ridden and forced to commit suicide. The Prime Minister invoked his humble background and said, the Congress cannot digest the reality that the son of a poor mother has become the Prime Minister. He said the Congress has now realised that it is no longer possible to play this poverty card to win elections.
Blaming the Congress squarely for the farmers plight, Mr. Modi said the BJP is trying to wash its sins. The Prime Minister also blamed Congress for having a covert understanding with the JD(S) to win the election. Mr Modi, who is on a whirlwind tour of election-bound Karnataka since May 1st, will also address three more public rallies in Gadag, Shimoga and Mangaluru today.
BJP State President B S Yeddyurappa will campaign in M K Hubli and also share the dais with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his rally in Shimoga today. BJP National President Amit Shah will lead road shows in Mysuru district while Home Minister Rajnath Singh is addressing four public rallies in Kalburgi district.
Congress leaders Dr Shashi Tharoor and Dr Abhishek Manu Singhvi are campaigning in Bengaluru today. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and JD(S) State President H D Kumaraswamy are also campaigning in Bagalkote and other places today.
