Film directors offer to bear expenses of students writing NEET

Tamil film directors Bharathiraja, Gowthaman, Ameer and Vetrimaaran have announced that on behalf of the Tamil Kalai Iyakkiya Panpaadu Peravai they would bear the expenses of students who will be writing the NEET examination at centres outside the State.

Criticising the State government, Mr. Bharathiraja said that not enough had been done to ensure that the students could smoothly take up the examination.

“The Tamil Nadu government should have held their ground and said that NEET will be conducted only in the State for students from Tamil Nadu.” He said students can contact the Peravai helplines — 98842 84853 and 98848 42929.

Speaking at a press meet on Friday, director Ameer said that the lack of steps taken by political parties in Tamil Nadu to address the concerns of the students was a betrayal to the State.

He said that they had been against the conduct of NEET right from the start and that it was extremely detrimental to the students of Tamil Nadu.

“When there is enough space to execute various Central government projects such as Neutrino in Tamil Nadu, why aren't there enough number of NEET centres for the students? Students have been severely disadvantaged and their future is at stake,” he said.

A few other members of the film industry too have come forward and announced that they would be willing to help students seeking help to go to other States to write the exam. Actors Prasanna, Arulnithi and Gayathri Raghuram, singer Chinmayee were among those who posted on social media that they were ready to help students.
