Taking serious note of mining going on in the name of land leveling, Mohali Deputy Commissioner Gurpreet Kaur Sapra has ordered to Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC)-cum-Nodal Officer (Mining) to immediately check the office functioning of General Manager Department of Industries (GMDIC) and send a report by May 7.

“It came to my notice that the office of GMDIC had been issuing NOCs (no objection certificates) allowing leveling of private agricultural land but those were being misused for mining. Along with this, it was also noticed that the private builders were also not following the correct procedure for digging of basements and they did not had the necessary approvals,” said Sapra.

She said that some random slips were being shown by the persons concerned, which have no value whatsoever as no law provision have been mentioned in them.

“On verification, it has also been found that no office copy was being maintained in the office of GMDIC. It forfeits the entire purpose of regulatory mechanisms of the government,” she pointed.

Sapra said that in view of such circumstances, ADC-cum-Nodal Officer (Mining) is ordered to immediately check the office functioning of GMDIC and send a report by May 7.

Meanwhile, no approval of any leveling of agricultural land or digging of any basement is to be allowed without a formal approval on the file through the ADC (G), she made it clear.

Reportedly, Mohali DC office has received complaints against Derabassi Block Level Officer Baljeet Singh from some crusher owners.
