Nobel Prize in literature for 2018 postponed after sexual-abuse claims

The Nobel Prize in Literature for 2018 will not be given this year, but will be postponed until 2019, the body that awards the prize said Friday. "The present decision was arrived at in view of the currently diminished Academy and the reduced public confidence in the Academy," the Swedish Academy said in a statement. The academy is grappling with allegations of sexual assault against Jean-Claude Arnault, the husband of one of its members, Katarina Frostenson. Its handling of the claims has led to the resignation of three of the 18 members of the literature prize jury. "[We] support Thursday's decision," the Nobel Foundation said Friday in a statement. "The crisis in the Swedish Academy has adversely affected the Nobel Prize."
