Vice President to mark NIT celebrations

The National Institute of Technology (NIT) would begin celebrating its diamond jubilee year from October 18, with Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu set to launch the celebrations. NIT director N.V. Ramana Rao said during the year-long celebrations, the institute would invite eminent academics for guest lectures, set up new laboratories and conduct special conferences.

The institute has been chosen by MHRD and its Ministry of Education and Literacy as one of the three mentoring Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) in the State. The other two are the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT-H) and the University of Hyderabad (UOH). As a part of the initiative, four workshops have been conducted so far to train 100 school teachers.

50 students at the school level have been selected to spend their summer vacation as Internship Scholars at the institute to understand and undertake a problem-based research topic under the guidance of some senior faculty members. Thus, they would get motivated towards research and academic goals as their career targets. The activity would commence on May 4 and continue till June 3.

Professor Rao said the Electronics and ICT Academy was another initiative of Ministry of Communications and Information Technology with a project outlay of ₹25 crore over five years in self sustainable mode. The E&ICT Academy is one of the seven established in August 2015 to boost the employability skills of engineers and graduates through formal training.

NIT Warangal caters to the needs of the faculty from the Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Puducherry, Karnataka, Lakshadweep, and Andaman and Nicobar. It is ranked 25 nationally for its excellence in teaching.
