BJP attacks AAP over drinking water

‘Yet to give reliable public transport, health services, free Wi-Fi’

The Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday attacked the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government over its alleged failure to provide quality drinking water to residents even as it announced that the party would take to the streets in protest.

Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari said the supply of quality drinking water, which was among the fundamental rights of every citizen, was suffering under the Kejriwal government.

He, further, alleged that the AAP has also failed at providing reliable public transport and health services in addition to free Wi-Fi services as promised.

“Workers of the Delhi BJP will take to the streets to agitate against this water crisis, and shortly after that meet Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal and demand his intervention in the matter in public interest,” Mr. Tiwari announced at a press conference here.

The Delhi Jal Board (DJB), he said, was the only organisation under the direct charge of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal but the present alleged water crisis, the north-east Delhi MP alleged, showed that besides “disowning his words and speaking lies”, Mr. Kejriwal was “also neglecting his duties”.

“About 1.5 crore people of Delhi are suffering due to the failure of the government in discharging its responsibility. The tanker scam continues under the Jal Board. The people of rural areas of Delhi, jhuggi clusters and rehabilitation colonies are dependent on the supply of water by the tankers. At present they are craving for a few drops of safe drinking water,” Mr. Tiwari alleged.

‘Tall claims’

He also alleged that the “tall claims of Arvind Kejriwal on the issue of reliable transport system and the status of permanent service for the employees” of the Delhi Transport Corporation had come to naught.
