Mumbai: Two minor fires were reported in a single day in Mumbai on Thursday. A small fire gutted a gala in Lower Parel’s Mathuradas Mill Compound on Thursday morning. Two fire tenders were rushed to the spot and doused the fire within an hour. The fire reportedly started around 11.05 am and was doused by 11.28 am, said a fire official.

“Fire fighters and police, both, rushed to the spot to ensure the fire is doused as early as possible. No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident,” said the official. The cause of the blaze has been identified as short circuit. Passers-by alleged that the blaze started at the staff quarters of Cafe Zoe, located inside the same compound.

The premises in central Mumbai primarily houses offices and eateries and is located opposite to Kamala Mills Compound, where 14 people were killed in a deadly blaze on December 28 last year.  After the tragedy, the BMC and the fire brigade department had taken several measures, including removal of encroachments from the industrial and commercial areas across the city.

Meanwhile, another minor fire was reported in Agripada at Rangwala Compund near Jacob Circle in the evening. Fire officials received a level two fire call at around 4:15 pm after which four fire tenders were rushed to the spot.  “The fire was doused before 5:45 pm. The ground floored structure was smoke-logged,” said a fire official. No injuries were reported in the incident.
