The festival of democracy is all set to lighten up the clouds of Silli as nomination for the Silli bypolls began on Thursday. Deputy Commissioner, Ranchi, Rai Mahimapat Ray said that the process began on Thursday and will go on until May 10, at a media briefing organised at the Collectorate Office on Thursday. However, no nominations have been filed until Thursday evening.

The DC highlighted about the preparations for the upcoming Silli by poll. A total of 278 booths have been set up and votes will be given using VVPATs. The voters’ list published on January 2018 will be used to determine the voters which includes a total of 195,015 voters, including 99432 males and 95582 females. The DC detailed the timeline according to which May 10 remains the last day for filing the nominations. May 11 will be dedicated to scrutinizing the candidatures. The polling will happen on May 28 and the results will be declared on May 31.

Security of all the booths will be the priority of the district administrations. The polling parties will be sent to the elections centres from Silli. The strong room has been established Pandra from where the counting will take place. 25 polling booths have been marked as model booths. To ensure seamless execution of the polling process, 1700 election workers along with micro observers have been deployed in all the booths.

Speaking on the preparations, DC said, “All the sensitive booths are being earmarked for the CRPF and micro observers to keep a strong vigil on the miscreants. Additionally, a toll-free number will be rolled out on Friday where people can report any violation of moral code of conduct. People can also register their grievances online on www.ranchi.nic.in.”

The DC further elaborated that the use of VVTPAT is being undertaken for the second time in Jharkhand. Tasting success in other states, this mechanism is being replicated in Jharkhand for making the polling process even more transparent and fair. This machine features a method through which a slip is generated signaling which candidate has got how many votes.  “To educate people and create awareness about the use VVTPATs, LED vans will be used to advertise about this mechanism in the entire district,” added Ray.
