CHENNAI: Unreserved tickets issued at all railway stations in
Tamil Nadu will give details printed in Tamil, besides in Hindi and English. In
Kerala, it will be in
Malayalam besides in Hindi and English.
The Southern Railway announced on Friday that the unreserved tickets generated through UTS (unreserved ticketing system), automatic ticket vending machines (ATVMs) and coin operated ticket vending machines (CoTVMs) will print tickets which will mention the originating and destination stations in trilingual format (English, Hindi and the regional language –
Tamil or Malayalam).
"This is expected to be a major convenience for unreserved passengers over the Southern Railway. Due to the multiple models of ticketing machines installed over the years in different locations, a few of the counters may still issue tickets in bilingual format. This technical issue will be sorted out shortly by replacing the old machines with new ones," Southern Railway said in an official statement.
A few weeks ago, the Southern Railway introduced this facility at five stations in Tamil Nadu and four stations in Kerala.
