Four fishermen, who were feared drowned after their boat capsized in Chilika lake late on Wednesday night, were rescued on Thursday.

Reports said the fishermen belonging to Kaudikhunti village under Kanas block in Puri district had gone to fish in the Chillika lake. At around 11 pm, Nor’wester rains started lashing following which their boat developed some technical snag and sank. The fishermen in the boat were feared drowned.

On getting information, Fire Brigade personnel along with locals rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. After a frantic search, the officials managed to trace all the four in the day.

“Rain accompanied with strong winds suddenly started lashing at around 11 pm. The wind grew strong and it became impossible to control the boat. The boat developed problems and we got off the boat to save our life,” said one of the fishermen, who was rescued.
