Deanna Rae Kwapil, 73, of Palo, died Thursday, May 3, 2018. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Teahen Funeral Home by the Rev. John Howerton. Burial: Palo Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and on Tuesday after 9:30 a.m.
Deanna is survived by her husband, Joe; two sons, Jason (Denise) of Palo and Chris of Shellsburg; mother, Flora Specht of Burlington; sister, Rebecka (Bill) Mertens of Lake St. Louis, Mo.; three grandchildren, Shae, Shelby and Sam; several nieces and nephews; and her dog, Opie.
She was preceded in death by her father, Wilbur; and grandson, Ross.
Deanna was born Oct. 11, 1944, in Iowa Falls, the daughter of Wilbur and Flora Larson Specht. She graduated from Danville High School in 1962. On June 6, 1964, she married Joe Kwapil in Burlington.
Deanna enjoyed crossword puzzles, cross stitching, casino slot machines, playing cards, buying things from QVC and boating at Coralville Lake in their pontoon. She loved cooking for her family and spending time with them at the holidays, especially Christmas and Easter. Deanna looked forward to camping and traveling each year to Arizona.
Deanna's family would like to thank UnityPoint Hospice for keeping her comfortable the last few weeks of her life.
Instead of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Deanna's name.
