P. Satheesan, brother of former CPI(M) Kannur district secretary P. Sasi, was arrested by the Kasaba police on the charges of cheating a job applicant after obtaining money.

The case was registered against him under Section 420 (punishment for cheating and dishonestly inducing the delivery of property) of the IPC on the basis of complaints filed by a woman from Feroke.

She alleged that the accused promised the job projecting his relationship with the government functionaries and senior CPI(M) leaders. She claimed in the complaint that the accused misused the name of the Chief Minister to win trust.

Police sources said Satheesan allegedly secured ₹2 lakh promising the job to the applicant in the government sector under the dying in harness scheme. He was reluctant to give back the sum though the job applicant approached him several times in the absence of keeping the promise, the police said.

In the preliminary investigation, it was found that the Kannur native was having involvement in other similar cheating cases. He had reportedly secured money from people who sought job at the upcoming Kannur International Airport, police sources said. He would be produced before the magistrate on Saturday.
