A three-month-old deer was mauled to death by feral dogs near Perundurai in Erode district on Friday.
The deer was part of a herd that was in the forest area abutting Kunnathur Road in Perundurai. A pack of feral dogs roaming around the locality pounced on the herd and caught the calf, forest officials said.
Public saw the dogs mauling the calf and chased them away.
Later, they informed the forest officials. Forest staff who came to the spot and examined the calf found that it was dead by then.
An autopsy was performed and the carcass was buried. tnn
