Bhayandar: The rescue of two women from a lodge in Mira Road, has yet again exposed the nefarious activities of some hotel owners who are operating prostitution dens under the garb of providing shelter to patrons. Following a tip-off that Hotel Regan Regency (RR) located near D-Mart on the Mira-Bhayandar Road was a front for operating a prostitution racket, a decoy customer was sent by a team from the Thane (rural) police to the establishment.
After confirming information of the “pick-up” service by striking deal with the hotel-staffers, a police team from the Anti Human Trafficking Wing (AHTW) of the Thane (rural) police and their Mira Road counterparts led by Assistant Superintendent of Police, Atul Kulkarni, swooped down on the lodge on Wednesday night. While the cashier Uma Shankar Gowda, two waiters Virendra Yadav and Sanjay Yadav who doubled up as pimps were taken into custody, the police team rescued two women aged 24 and 25 years, from the clutches of the flesh trade racketeers.
A case under the relevant sections of the Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act and section 370 of the Indian Penal Code, has been registered against the trio. However as usual the actual operator and the owner like in other similar cases continue to remain out of the police dragnet and ambit of investigations. The case has been handed over to the Mira Road police for further probe.
