ABC has voted for American Idol.
The network has renewed the singing competition for a second season on the network and a seventeenth overall, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie will be back, as will host Ryan Seacrest.
American Idol was a bit of a gamble for ABC, as it's very expensive to produce and doesn't pull the massive audience it did in its mid-'00s heyday. But it delivered on the ratings ABC promised to advertisers, which is good enough for a second season (not that it was really ever in danger of not being picked up, considering how much ABC has invested in it).
ABC resurrected the series after it was canceled by Fox and aired what was then billed as its "final season" in 2016. It's performed solidly in its abbreviated season (ABC's version is a month shorter than Fox's version).
American Idol airs Mondays at 8/7c on ABC. Its Season 16 finale will air over two nights on Sunday, May 20 and Monday, May 21.
