Caller threatens to kill Kanathur dentist, demands ₹1 lakh

His friends also received similar extortion threats

An audio recording of a call from an unknown person threatening to kill a dentist at Kanathur has gone viral on social media.

Harish, the dentist, is running a clinic in Kanathur. He complained to the police that he received a call from a person demanding ₹1 lakh immediately.

In the audio, the caller is heard saying, “We have collected all details about you and have decided to finish you off. If you don’t want to be killed, you must pay ₹1 lakh to us.”

“If you want to be happy, give money... once you pay us, we will not disturb you at all. You may think that we will harass you repeatedly. We will not do so. I follow certain ethics and will not harass you later,” the caller said.

When the dentist negotiated with the caller and sought time saying he had only ₹10,000 with him, the caller continued to threaten him, the police said.

“Have you read newspapers? How many cases of robberies are being reported? You can imagine somebody may snatch the 10-sovereign gold chain of your wife.”

The dentist agreed to arrange ₹50,000 the next day but the caller said that even if he was murdered, the police would not be able crack the case easily.

Even the CBI could not reach them, the caller boasted.

Finally, the caller agreed to accept ₹50,000 and demanded that the money be delivered near the Aavin booth. He wanted all the notes to be in ₹2000 denomination.

Dr. Harish filed a complaint with the Kanathur police, who registered a case.

The police were conducting voice tests to identify the caller. “As per our preliminary investigation, the caller is not a professional. He has threatened a few more friends of Dr. Harish, who are dentists on OMR and ECR. We are investigating the case from all angles,” said an investigation officer.
