Hitting out at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, the Samajwadi Party said that Gram Swaraj Yojana of the BJP where leaders and ministers hold chaupal in villages, was nothing but a drama to project themselves as true saviours whereas the fact remained that the present government was harassing farmers to the hilt.
“The BJP has started a new drama where leaders and ministers go and organize chaupals in villages. They dine at some Dalit home and return the next day claiming that they have done a lot for farmers. However, the fact remains that farmers were facing the brunt of misgovernance of this government,” state SP president Naresh Uttam said in a written statement issued in Lucknow on Thursday.
Uttam alleged that the Yogi government played the biggest joke by announcing waiver of crop loans.
“The fact is that those close to the ruling party got benefited while the majority of farmers were deprived of the loan waiver scheme. The result is that numerous farmers committed suicide,” Uttam said.
“The Chief Minister talks about wheat and paddy purchase centres but the fact is that most of them remain closed forcing farmers to sell their produce to local traders at cheap rates. Similar is the case of cane farmers whose arrears are climbing and this government has turned a blind eye towards their plight,” he charged.
Comparing the BJP rule with Akhilesh Yadav regime, the state SP chief said that the SP government announced 2016-17 as ‘Kisan Varsh’ and allocated 75 per cent of the budget for farmers.
“This government has so far failed to do justice with the farmers,” Uttam said.
