This actually marks a rise of nearly 8.8% over the previous year.
The visitors had left over $2.3 billion behind them when they returned home marking an increase of about 10%. Increases were strong especially among Canadians who had been the largest group of tourists each year, Americans and also overseas visitors.
The traffic in Twitter and Facebook also registered a sharp increase after the mega celebratory event in Canada.
While Canada Day and its spinoff events were an important draw, the city also benefitted from the visit of large mechanical dragon-horse and spider from the French company La Machine during a four-day magnificent show of street theatre.
Organizers estimated that as many as 750,000 people had witnessed this performance.
