The brave Never Trump Republican Party continues to evolve, in reverse direction. The “Never” part of Never Trump quickly became “Okay, Sometimes” and “Maybe For A While.” Now it is “Nobody But Trump.”
The Republican National Committee is changing its rules for 2020. Are they changing them in a way to undo the catastrophic misfire that installed an incompetent, compulsive liar in the Oval Office? Um … no. “Obviously this is intended to dissuade a primary challenge to the president.”
Because, of course, who could there possibly be out there in the world who would be a better president? They must have asked President Trump and he told them that he was the best ever. That’s good enough for Republicans!
This comes against the backdrop of some Republicans thinking that a destruction of an independent Justice Department would not be too small a price to pay to protect this best-of-all-possible presidents.
What a descent the GOP has traversed. The only step still untaken is President-for-Life Trump, and who among you would take the bet that the GOP wouldn’t go there? Never Trump rhymes with Forever Trump!
What is clear by now, as is clear in any epidemic, is that this disease is virulent. It has infected and killed off any nation-before-party Republicans who were still in the vicinity. Now we will find out whether the rest of us have it in us to quarantine this party before sanity and ethics start looking suspect to us, too.
On Sunday, the November midterm elections will be exactly six months way. Stay healthy.
