SHO resigns hours after registering FIR against Shahkot Cong candidate Hardev Ladi

The SHO had filed an FIR against Hardev Singh Laddi Sherowalia on Friday at 4.26am.

Hours after he registered the first information report (FIR) against Congress leader Hardev Singh Laddi Sherowalia on charges of illegal sand mining, Mehatpur police station house officer (SHO) Parminder Singh Bajwa tendered his resignation on Friday morning.

In a letter addressed to senior superintendent police (Jalandhar, rural) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, the SHO said, “I know you are working under very pressure of sitting government, please accept my resignation or put on absence from today 4-5-2018 at 9.45am (sic).”

The letter concludes with his signature. SHO Parminder was on Wednesday posted as Mehatpur SHO following the directions of the Election Commission of India.

The resignation came hours after the SHO booked Ladi Sherowalia on charges of illegal sand mining under Section 21 of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act and Section 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code. The FIR was registered on Friday at 4.26am.

Hardev Singh Ladi Sherowalia was declared the party candidate for the assembly bypoll for Shahkot constituency scheduled for May 28.

Besides Laddi, the police also booked contractor of Kaimvala quarry Surjit Singh and Ashwinder Singh.

SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, SP (investigation) Balkar Singh, DSP Shahkot Dilbagh Singh could not be contacted for their comment.
