Man from Karnataka held for molesting UK national standing in queue at Mumbai airport

 A 28-year-old man was arrested for allegedly molesting a UK national at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport on Wednesday morning. A CCTV camera has caught the act.

According to the Sahar police, the complainant is 32-year-old and works in a private firm in Manchester, UK. She is a UK citizen but regularly visits India to meet her parents.

She was on her way to Dubai after meeting her parents and reached the international airport in the morning. “Around 11.30am when she was in a queue at the money exchange counter on level no 4, the accused, Imran Abdul Hadi Barvasi, stood behind her. Barvasi, a resident of Hubli in Karnataka, started feeling her up.The woman screamed for help and the staff members at the money exchange counter caught hold of him till the police arrived,” an official from Sahar police station.

The staff members checked their CCTV cameras and found footage showing that Barvasi deliberately touched her from behind.

“The accused has confessed to the crime,” said the official.

Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officials handed over Barvasi to Sahar police station. The woman has lodged a complaint, upon which the police have filed a case against Barvasi under section 354 (criminal force on a woman outraging her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code.

Another official said, “The accused was remanded in judicial custody and sent to Arthur Road jail.” The police have collected the CCTV footage from the airport authorities. Barvasi was asked to undergo a medical test to check if he was drunk.
