City schools shine

Many govt schools among those posted 100% success

City schools put up a good show in the SSLC examinations the results of which were announced here on Thursday.

A number of government schools in the city registered 100% success. These included Government Medical College Higher Secondary School (HSS); Government City Vocational HSS; Government High School (HS), Vanchiyoor; Government HSS, Pettah; Government Sanskrit HS, Fort; Government Regional Fisheries Technical HS and VHSS; Government HSS for Boys, Karamana; Government HS, Pappanamcode; Government Girls HSS, Karamana; Government HS, Chala; Government Tamil HSS (VSHH &TTI), Chala; and Government HS, Jagathy.

In the aided sector, St. John’s Model HSS, Nalanchira; Salvation Army HSS, Kowdiar; RKD NSS HSS, Sasthamangalam; St. Joseph’s HSS, General Hospital; NSS HSS, Palkulangara; Fort Boys HS; and NSS HSS, Kesavadasapuram; registered 100% pass.

All students qualified for higher studies at Government VHSS and THS for the Deaf, Jagathy.

Among unaided schools, Nirmala Bhavan Girls HSS, Kowdiar, secured 100% pass. Of the 173 students who appeared for the examination, 39 had full A+. Holy Angels’ Convent HSS too had 100% result. Of the 271 students who sat for the exam, 63 had secured A+ in all subjects. Sarvodaya Vidyalaya repeated its 100% result.

St. Thomas Higher Secondary School, Mukkolakkal, and Chinmaya Vidyalaya also secured 100% results.

At St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Pattom, where the second largest number of students sat for the exam — 1,810, the pass percentage was 99.2. As many as 135 students secured A+ grade in all subjects.

Mayor V.K. Prashant congratulated government school students in the city for their good performance. The efforts of the government and the city Corporation to improve academic standards and school infrastructure had played a role in the good show, he said. Teachers had fully supported the Corporation’s remedial education programme for students. Initiatives such as smart classrooms would further help improve results, he said. The Mayor visited Government Higher Secondary School for Girls, Cotton Hill, and congratulated the students and teachers.

St. Philip School, Nellikkad, registered 100% pass. The Government Tribal High School in the hilly Meenangal area also fared well. As many as 122 students appeared for the exam here, and the pass percentage was 97. Sixteen students secured A+ grade in all subjects.
