Provide necessary facilities on toll plazas: PWD Minister

PWD and IT Minister Punjab Vijay Inder Singla has issued strict instructions to ensure availability of all mandatory facilities at toll plazas in the state.

Addressing a state-level meeting of the senior officers of the PWD here at Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration, Mr Singla said that he has reviewed the facilities of some toll plazas and found lack of required facilities there. He directed the officers to check these toll plazas on regular intervals and in case of any neglect of mandatory services, the defaulter and concerned officers would not be spared.

With a vision to acknowledge the citizens of the state regarding the quality of the ongoing works and material being used, the PWD Minister suggested that a detailed information board of different development projects be set up on the site and the same should be shared on various social media platforms. He also issued instructions regarding timely repair of all the roads being constructed and maintained by the PWD. Mr Singla reiterated that any compromise with quality and transparency in work would not be tolerated. He said that the mechanism to ensure quality of ongoing works would be set up soon.

Mr Singla also emphasised on the need of imparting training to officers at the regular intervals to enable them in meeting the technological advancements and emerging challenges. He said that the computerisation of entire working of the department would be ensured soon to speed-up the working besides bringing in more efficiency in the system. He also advised to give preference to local contractors while awarding the works. Elaborating on Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh’s dream of developing world class road network in the state, Mr Singla encouraged the officials to get involved in this direction. He said that the timelines of development project should be kept in focus and any scope of reform given due consideration.

The PWD Minister also sought suggestions from the officials to improve the performance of the department and discuss problems being faced by it.
