Mumbai: A 22-year-old youth attempted to commit suicide by jumping from Princess Street flyover late on Tuesday night since he was depressed after his mother chided him for bringing home a stray cat.
The incident occurred on Tuesday night at 1:30 a.m. Maunik Baburao Sonalkar (22) had a fight with his mother on Tuesday night after she scolded him for bringing home a stray cat. Sonalkar had spotted the cat in his neighbourhood and since he likes cat, he had brought the cat home. However, Sonalkar’s noble gesture infuriated his mother and they got into a heated argument.
In a fit of rage, Sonalkar walked out of his residence on Tuesday night. He stood at the flyover at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Road in south-bound direction and leaped from the flyover. The officers on nakabandi duty who spotted Sonalkar immediately rushed to his rescue. The control room was informed about the incident. Sonalkar was immediately rushed to Gokuldas Tejpal Hospital by the patrolling team.
According to Vilas Gangwane, Senior Police Inspector, Marine Drive police, “Sonalkar’s condition is stable now. We have counselled him and he was immediately given medical treatment at the hospital.” Sonalkar, a Marine Engineer, has sustained minor injuries on his head, left leg and thigh. He is being being treated at Jamsetjee Jeejeebhoy hospital.
