Arrest all 7 accused, says father of Nuh gang-rape victim

She committed suicide three days after Sunday’s incident

Three days after a 17-year-old girl committed suicide in neighbouring Nuh after she was allegedly gang-raped by seven men, her family on Thursday accused the police of delaying action in the case.

The teenager’s father met the Superintendent of Police on Thursday seeking immediate arrest of the accused and blamed the police for delay in action.

“All seven accused in the case have been identified but no arrests have been made so far,” said the father. He alleged that the accused are well-off and well-connected, and that the police are acting under their influence.

Girl kidnapped

The Class XII student was at home along with her sister when the accused allegedly came on motorcycles and forcibly took her to a secluded place on Sunday evening. The accused then allegedly took turns to rape her and fled the spot.

Found unconscious

The girl was found unconscious at some distance from home in the morning when her cousin went out looking for her. He also found two motorcycles parked at a secluded place.

“My other daughter, who is married, was asleep in the adjacent room with her children when the accused barged in and kidnapped my 17-year-old daughter,” said the father.

While the girl’s mother had gone to a relative’s home to express condolences over a death in the extended family, the father was out of town for work.

“I was on the way back home, just a few kilometres from the village, when my nephew called saying she had hanged herself in the bathroom,” said the father.

He learnt about the kidnapping and rape when he returned home, and reported the matter to the police.

The father claimed that some men belonging to the accused’s group had kidnapped and gang-raped a Dalit girl in the village six months ago but no action had been taken against them.

The police said the accused in the present case have been identified and raids are being conducted to arrest them. “Three teams have been constituted to conduct raids and arrest the accused. We hope to make arrests soon,” said Jai Bhan Tyagi, Station House Officer, Rozka Meo police station.
