Why no action on complaintagainst S.Ve. Shekher: HC

Order on bail plea reserved; ‘details sought from Facebook’

The Madras High Court on Thursday chided the State police for their inaction on the complaint filed against actor and BJP leader S.Ve. Shekher, asking if they were being partial to him.

With these observations, Justice S. Ramathilagam reserved her order on an anticipatory bail plea filed by Mr. Shekher. “Why the different approach in the case of Shekher?” asked the judge, who pointed out that the police had initiated action against the journalists who had protested against the actor-politician.

The case against Mr. Shekher was filed after he posted a statement on Facebook that was derogatory to women journalists. An additional public prosecutor informed the court that the police has approached Facebook for details of Mr. Shekher’s deleted post.

‘No truth in allegations’

In the court on Thursday, Mr. Shekher said there was no truth in the allegations against him and he had not intended to hurt anyone.

Mr. Shekher’s counsel informed the court that he would obey any orders that the court passes while granting the anticipatory bail.
