Cape Town – Disney’s much anticipated big budget fantasy film, A Wrinkle in Time finally opens in South African cinemas.
Thirteen-year-old Meg Murry (Storm Reid) travels across time to find her scientist father after he disappeared for four years. Through the guidance of three celestial beings she has to face her fears and save her father and herself.
Also to see in cinemas: An unconventional teen romance, a comedy about body positivity and a stalker thriller shot on an iPhone.
Here are the 4 new films releasing in SA today:
Movie: A Wrinkle in Time
Our rating: 2/5
Short review: A Wrinkle in Time works well when it focuses on the coming of age tropes while the cluttered jumble of themes and over use of CGI distracts rather than adds to the magic.
Movie: I Feel Pretty
Our rating: 2/5
Short review: I Feel Pretty had good intentions, but instead ended up being a contrived attempt at a body positive message that no one is interested in.
Movie: Every Day
Our rating: 3/5
Short review: Every Day missed out on using its own unique concept to its full extent, but still managed to make a watchable movie that avoids being annoying teenage melodrama.
Movie: Unsane
Our rating: 3/5
Short review: Claire Foy shines in this experimental film by Steven Sodenbergh.
