Government schools perform poorly in spite of huge spending, says TRSMA

The State government schools in the Telangana have delivered poor performances in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations in spite of all necessary infrastructure, expertise and other facilities, alleged Telangana Recognised Schools Management Association (TRSMA) state general secretary Y. Shekhar Rao.

Though the government was spending around ₹1 lakh per student in the government schools, the results are not up to the expectations. On the other hand, the government is imposing several restrictions on the private schools, yet the performance of private school students is outstanding when compared to the government schools, he maintained.

Talking to newsmen here on Friday, TRSMA general secretary Shekhar Rao said, the private schools have been winning accolades from the parents and society for their quality education. “We are providing quality education to the students with less fee structure. But, the government is burdening the private schools with several new rules such as fire safety certificate, soundless certificate, property tax, commercial electricity charges, high school bus insurance etc”, he complained.

Alleging that the government schools were losing their sheen with low enrolment, he charged that the government teachers and others were threatening the gullible parents with discontinuing their welfare schemes such as pensions, double bedroom housing scheme, ration card etc if they failed to send their wards to government schools.

Government teachers and employees send their children to private schools for quality education, he reminded, and found fault with government teachers obstructing a parent who wished to choose better school for their children.

He said that the private schools in the State were providing employment to over three lakh persons and excelling in results with lesser fee structure compared to the government expenditure on the government schools.

Private versus govt.

He said that the private schools numbering around 5791 have secured 4,597 10 GPA marks in the SSC examinations recently. On the other hand, only 171 students from 5,482 government schools have secured 10 GPA score in SSC results.

He also assured to follow the Right to Education (RTE) Act and provide 25% reservations to the students if the government provides fee reimbursement to the private schools.
