Hawaii volcano Kilauea erupted yesterday, with 10,000 residents told to urgently leave their homes and head to safety.
A popular tourist destination, Hawaii is made up of a number of islands, with the Big Island - on which the volcano is situated - being the largest.
The eruption occurred after a series of earthquakes on the island over the last couple of days.
A magnitude 5.0 earthquake shook the Big Island, which caused a giant plume of pink smoke to rise from the mountain.

Hawaiian Airlines
Passengers travelling with Hawaii’s flagship airline have been offered the opportunity to change their flights.
The airline tweeted this morning: “#Kilauea Travel Update: Effective immediately, guests holding tickets for travel on Hawaiian Airlines flights to/from/via Hilo (ITO) or Kona (KOA), Hawaii, on 5/3-5/4, will be permitted a one-time reservation change with waiver of change fee.”
United Airlines
One of America’s biggest airlines has yet to change or cancel flights as a result of the volcano.

Is it safe to travel to Hawaii? Hawaii is a holiday hotspot for tourists with its rich culture and luscious beaches attracting thousands of tourists every year.
According to the Hawaii Tourism Authority, tourism to the country reached a new record in 2017 with 9.38 million travellers visiting last year.
Local authorities at Hawaii’s Volcanoes National Park closed more than 16,000 acres of land, including the Kalapan visiter viewing point.
Visitors and locals have been warned to stay away from the area as the situation escalates.
Tourist boat, hiking and general tours have been suspended until further notice.
