Baker Hughes reports a rise in U.S. oil-rig count for a fifth-straight week

Baker Hughes on Friday reported that the number of active U.S. rigs drilling for oil rose by 9 to 834 this week. The oil-rig count had logged gains in each of the last four weeks. The total active U.S. rig count, which includes oil and natural-gas rigs, climbed by 11 to 1,032, according to Baker Hughes. June West Texas Intermediate crude was up $1.31, or 1.9%, from Thursday, to $69.74 a barrel, down from $69.80 before the rig data.
