College teachers stage protest

They are demanding immediate implementation of VII pay panel report

Faculty attached to the Bharathidasan Government College for Women Teachers Welfare Association (BGCWTWA) on Thursday staged a demonstration in front of the college here demanding the immediate implementation of pay scales as per the Seventh Pay Commission recommendations among their other main demands.

Dearness allowance

Association president P. Natesan said the equivalent dearness allowance in the old pay on par to the new Seventh Pay Commission recommendations were also kept pending. Pay scales and promotion are two important steps in the career of government employees.

However, for teachers working in the government colleges in Puducherry, the promotions have been pending for over 10 years, Mr. Natesan added.

The association has also demanded that the government implement the recommendations of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Ministry of Human Resource Development which increased the retirement age for college teachers from 62 to 65, according to a release.
