Another storm brewing, IMD warns of squalls, gusty winds in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh

There is a high probability that winds will intensify in the next 3 days in Rajasthan, which may lead to another dust storm, says an Indian Meteorological Department scientist

Thunderstorms, squalls and gusty winds, that’s the forecast from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) for the next three days for several states across India.

Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, which saw the maximum number of deaths after Wednesday evening’s dust storm and thunderstorm, are bracing for more. Of the , Rajasthan and UP bore the brunt with Agra alone reporting more than 45 deaths.

IMD, which described Wednesday’s storms as a said it was caused by a western disturbance-induced cyclonic circulation, high moisture brought by easterly winds and the recent spell of unusually high temperatures.

“There is a high probability that winds will intensify in the next 48 hours in Rajasthan, which may lead to another dust storm. It will affect areas of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan border, especially Karauli and Dholpur,” IMD scientist Himanshu Sharma told PTI.

May 4

Thunderstorm and squalls: Parts of Uttarakhand, West Bengal and Sikkim and Odisha.

Thunderstorm with gusty winds: Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Rajasthan, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, north coastal Andhra Pradesh, south Interior Karnataka, interior Tamilnadu and Kerala.

May 5

Thunderstorm with squall: Parts of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Thunderstorm with gusty winds: Parts of Gangetic West Bengal, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Odisha and Kerala.

May 6

Thunderstorm with squall and hail: Parts of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.

Thunderstorm with gusty winds: Parts of Uttarakhand and Punjab.
