Ukraine Q1 Trade Deficit Up by 25.4%

Ukraine’s deficit of foreign trade in commodities over the period under review grew by 1.3% year-on-year, Unian reported. The deficit of Ukraine’s foreign trade in goods and services in January-March 2018 was estimated at $1.691 billion, which was 25.4% up from a deficit year-on-year. The deficit of foreign trade in commodities in Q1 grew by 1.3% y-o-y, to $1.936 billion, while the surplus of foreign trade in services increased by 2.3 times, to $245 billion, according to the website of the National Bank of Ukraine. As Unian reported earlier, the deficit of Ukraine’s foreign trade in 2017 was estimated at $2.625 billion against the surplus at $541.6 million in 2016. However, the National Bank of Ukraine said that the country’s foreign trade in goods and services showed a deficit of $6.848 billion in 2017, which was 25.2% up from the deficit reported in 2016.
