Herbert Diess stresses that car maker needs to accelerate the pace of change

BERLIN—In his first address to shareholders, Volkswagen AG’s new chief executive pledged Thursday to reform the company’s corporate culture, embrace new technology and consider spinning off nonessential businesses—goals that, by and large, had already been set by his predecessor.

The twist: It will all have to be done faster.
