Court warns witness in MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage’s case

The court  warned a witness of the case against Joint Opposition MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage, who is charged for misusing Rs. 27 million of state funds to purchase a personal property.

The former minister of the previous government was charged under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act for failing to prove how he raised money to purchase a property worth Rs. 27 Million in Kynsey Road in Colombo 7.

When the case was heard before Colombo High Court Judge Gihan Kulatunga today, statements were recorded from a witness of the case.

The witness, Douglas Kahawage, the treasurer of the Sri Lanka Freedom Workers Congress trade union under the chairmanship of the accused MP Aluthgamage were recorded under the directions of state’s Deputy Solicitor General, Thusith Mudalige.

During the evidence hearing, Judge Gihan Kulatunga warned the witness, to tell the truth on the facts the witness knows to the court.

The Attorney General has filed the case against Parliamentarian Mahindananda Aluthgamage alleging that he had committed an offense under the Money Laundering Act, by purchasing a house at Kinsey Road, Colombo with Rs. 27 million money obtained illegally.

Further hearing of the case is due to be held on the 09th May.
