GUWAHATI: BJP national president
Amit Shah will attend the BJP-led North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) here on May 20, to set the roadmap for achieving its target for the
Lok Sabha polls by winning 21 out of 25 parliamentary seats in region.
Shah will have meeting with chief ministers of BJP-ruled states and those ruled by constituents of NEDA. MPs and MLAs of BJP as well as those belonging to NEDA will also attend the meeting, which is being dubbed as crucial for preparing the saffron party and its allies to maximize its seat counts in the region.
BJP heads the governments in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and
Manipur, while it is part of the coalition governments in
Nagaland and Meghalaya. Out of 25 Lok Sabha seats in Northeast including Sikkim, BJP has eight MPs, while three are from parties which are part of NEDA. Of course two MPs of NEDA--- Neiphiu Rio and Conrad Sangma have become chief ministers of Nagaland and
Meghalaya respectively.
“The upcoming NEDA meeting will be all about preparing BJP and its allies for the Lok Sabha polls. Our national president’s presence in the meeting will give all the necessary directions so that we gear up for the Lok Sabha polls,” Assam BJP president, Ranjeet Kumar Dass said at a press conference here on Thursday
Dass said that so far as Assam is concerned BJP has activated all its grassroots units including its booth-level committees in engaging pristha pramukhs (page in-charges) for the first time in the state to mobilize voters. BJP has set the target of involving 3.33 lakh pristha pramukhs ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. Each pristha pramukhs will be entrusted to look after 60 voters.
Dass said that from May 7, BJP office bearers including local unit leaders will start 10-long meetings in all the assembly segments under each parliamentary constituency across the state. The meetings will be for enrolling pristha pramukhs.
On March 24, Shah announced engagement of pristha pramukhs in the state’s Lok Sabha polls, after the strategy paid off for BJP’s maiden victory in
Tripura assembly election.
