The condition of RJD chief Lalu Prasad, presently admitted to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, is said to be stable except slight increase in his blood sugar level.

The RJD chief is under the observation of a five-member team of doctors headed by Dr Umesh Prasad after having been discharged from AIIMS, New Delhi on Monday.

Prasad has been lodged in Birsa Munda Central Jail in Ranchi since December 23 after being convicted by a Special CBI Court of Shivpal Singh in a fodder scam case RC64A/96, related to Deoghar Treasury. He was taken to RIMS on March 17 after he complained of intense pain due to perianal abscess developed in his body.

He was later shifted to AIIMS for treatment of diabetes, hypertension and cardiac problems.

“Though he has not made any fresh complaints so far, his blood sugar level (fasting) has been found to be 181 which is still at a higher side while the pulse rate and Blood Pressure were found to be almost normal -- 82 and 130/70 respectively,” said Director in Charge of RIMS Manju Gari. Serum Creatinine level was also found to be 1.4 which could also be supposed to be normal, she said.

Meanwhile, the Director in Charge further added that a five-member team of doctors comprising Dr Umesh Prasad (HOD of Medicine Department), Dr Anil Kumar (Neuro Department), Dr Arshad Jamal (Urology) and Dr RG Bakhla (Surgery).

Interestingly, Dr Jamal is the same doctor who had operated on the right kidney in spite of operating left kidney of a woman in RIMS a few days back for which he had also been suspended for few days. Since there is a dearth of nephrologists in RIMS, Dr Jamal has also been included in the medical team for monitoring health conditions of the RJD chief.

Prasad was referred to RIMS by AIIMS medical board on Saturday, after his medical conditions were found to have improved significantly. The board found his medical conditions as stable and fit to travel.

Prasad, however, writing a letter to AIIMS Director, had alleged ‘political conspiracy’ behind his discharge and suggested the doctors that they should not act under pressure from ‘certain individuals or political parties’.

A total of six cases were lodged against Lalu Prasad out of which he has been convicted in three cases.

Medical Bulletin is likely to be released by the medical board by Thursday.
